A dance at the end of our week-long Tuscany journey in summer 2021 — and the question of how details become a whole.
We keep growing in tango because we look at our movements down to the smallest detail — we even dissect them. We try to consciously perceive and experience every single muscle and every bone that is in play.
What does my body need for this one step, this one small movement? Where does it begin — in the foot, in the pelvis, in the gaze? From the little finger to the toes, from the corners of the mouth to the centre of the body: everything belongs to it. We break a movement down into its parts and try to feel every part of the body: what it carries, what it serves. Which feeling is the initiation for this one small or large movement?
And then comes the most beautiful moment: we put everything back together. In the dancing embrace the parts find one another, reassemble themselves completely anew — and so can resonate with the music and the moment.
This dance to “La vie en rose” was created in summer 2021, after a week of tango in Tuscany. For me it is an example of how much lightness can grow from precise perception. The clearer the details, the freer the dance.
Detail is not a shackle. It is the ground on which the whole can fly.
