We

we continuously explore and develop our dance style.
Essential for us is that all movements are organic, relate to the here and now, and are contemporary.
Through the language of tango, we want to express ourselves,
the music, and the moment.

About Isabella & Iwan

Since 2008 we've been a dance and life couple, running our own tango school:
elonga – contemporary tango.
Mutually accepting the uniqueness of our beings led us, from the very beginning, to cultivate our own unmistakable tango style, shaped by joy, freedom and a deep longing for connection. Two strong individuals merge into an impressive unity.
As dancers and teachers we've come to know various methods of body work and have continuously studied our own bodies through collaboration with physiotherapists as well as through yoga, Cantienica, the Franklin Method and acting techniques. Inspired by collaboration with other professional dancers, contemporary dance, stage and project work, as well as with students in training, the art of dance and the dancing body are our preferred fields of research.

Isabella

Already at age 6 I was on the dance floor, in a youth dance group for modern dance,
a mix of contemporary, ballet and Polish folklore.

After two years, an involuntary switch to the choir (due to my supposedly rare alto voice).
Commercial training and founding isabella's Art, studio for one-of-a-kind fashion,
are the focus of my professional life for now.

In 2003, dance found me again — tango.
In 2008 it becomes a profession.
Today it remains an ongoing research, a continuous study of movement, the dancing body and dance itself. Expanded through further training in already learned methods and new approaches, such as somatic dance, self-massage and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage, studies of feminine and masculine movement forces, my curiosity for unfolding stays awake and the interweaving of these fields stays alive. Dance and fabric intertwine: my further training in Japanese draping and cutting technique,
in which you follow the flow of the fabric, finds an echo in the movement of the dance

Iwan

I am an artist, musician, dancer, singer, composer, photographer & video artist. Iwanharlan.com
For me, dance is making music. My body is my instrument.
In early 2005, the tango virus caught me as a dance.
I've been hooked ever since. You know how it is:
this drug is so strong because it makes you confident, sexy and free. You feel yourself.
In 2007 my fantastic tango teacher, Lizelot de Stighter, asked me to assist her.
That was the start of my career as a dance teacher.
Since 2008 I've been running the "elonga contemporary tango school" together with Isabella.
We continuously explore the dance, the music, and how we pass on this culture.
For me, tango is the wonderful opportunity to become more of a man,
to develop more awareness for masculine energy.
For me, a tango dance is authentic when the two primal energies, feminine and masculine,
meet each other and communicate through improvisation in the language of tango, to the music.
Man with man, woman with woman, and the ultimate discipline — woman with man!
At proTango e.V. – the nationwide association representing tango professionals – I serve as a board assessor, because a developing, open tango culture is close to my heart.
