You're not the first – Presence in tango

We discovered this wonderful title in Pina Bausch’s Kontakthof – and included it in the show for two reasons:

First: the feeling of lightness and humour that invites the simple games of being in love. A wonderful ingredient for danced communication in tango.

And second: the title itself already carries an important idea.

You are not the first – and yet every dance is the first of its kind.

We have been dancing together for many years. And that is exactly why we know: experience does not shield you from the new. It opens you to it.

Every embrace. Every piece of music. Every evening asks for a new answer – never a repetition of the last one.

This is one of the central ideas of our teaching: the moment is the choreography. Not what you learned yesterday, but what you perceive and answer right now. That is what makes the dance.

This attitude – curious, unjaded, present – is what we cultivate in our workshops and on our tango trips.

Tango as a practice of arriving. Again and again, anew.
